#2 - August: “work”
Hello! Welcome to our monthly newsletter for August.
Even if we are a bit biased, this month’s one is a good one featuring a guest column from the one and only… well you’ll have to keep reading to find out.
Once again, August was busy - although maybe more on a personal level for both of us. Although there were less shoots booked in this month, we still can’t believe that we get to call this work. The gears are still grinding and we are exploring ways to build up our community and get you more involved.
This month:
photo stories: wedding and Matterhorn Ultraks
meet Moment, a cycling clothing company run by a woowoo fan
guest column: “Why I tri”
What we’ve been up to
My first wedding shoot
Nervous and exciting.
I was pretty sure I had the skills to get good shots, but normally it's not just down to me, and I'm not normally responsible for positioning people - I just do the best with what I can, based on the sports event and location.
So there was a bit of pressure to get that right, and to see if I could actually pull it off…
Matterhorn Ultraks - a photo story
Mountains all around us, the moon behind the clouds.
Lightning in the distance, no thunder… for now.
Well that would change.
Shout out
This month we're excited to launch 'shout-outs', a chance to highlight cool people doing cool things - living their woo.
And first up is Angus, who started his own cycling apparel company: Moment.
Moment isn't about being the best or the fastest, but simply about getting out there and doing what makes you happy, whatever that looks like - that's a message we can get behind!
Check out their clothing here: ridemoment.cc and take a look at their Insta.
“Ride however fast and far your heart desires.”
Guest column: Why I tri - in the beginning!
I often ask myself the same question - repeatedly. I have been intrigued since I was young. I remember walking in to a cycle shop to ask about Tri bikes, the magnificent machines on display – carbon this, aero that - what would I need, and how much it would cost - £ thousands ☹
That put any notions of Tri’ing on hold, at least for now. I could (and did) buy a car for that. So I cycled home on my Raleigh Arena, content that she would be enough for now, I would have to wait to Tri. Shame really, with hindsight, you don’t need big bucks and the latest gear to get started, and it is not all about Ironman - the full distance – there is plenty of fun to be had along the way, whilst building experience, strength and stamina. But for me, the dream was on hold whilst life – career, houses, children – took over.
My career took me to Belgium and with my friends, we kicked off a number of woowoo experiences – making the most of our situation and the opportunities available. Ironically, one of the woowoo moments took us back home (UK), cycling from John o’Groats to Lands End 🚴(yes, most people do it the other way, but not us, no, no, we are far too young and clever) – but that is a whole other story.
Another moment was our first ever visit to a Formula one race – Spa Francorchamps – which not only turned us from motor racing cynic to avid petrolheads, but also gave us the first real sight of Tri in action. Belman, (BELgian IronMAN) was showing on the big screens set up to show the race action, and the Belman competitors were cycling around Spa as part of the triathlon course. Two loves, one iconic location – definitely woowoo.
And so it began! The next Belman, we were there. My boys raced. I watched. We were all hooked. I signed up for the next race.
That’s how it began, and so it goes on… 🚀
