#5 - November: Preparing

Welcome back,

We're in the lead up to Christmas now and it certainly feels like that at woowoo HQ - Rebecca keeps playing Christmas music whilst Alex is trying to talk.

This month's word is definitely well suited - although it may seem quiet on the photography and story front, we’ve been busy preparing a surprise for you... As well as preparing more content, and getting ready for 2024. But more of that will be revealed in the next newsletter.

In this month's edition:

  • Want tips on how to overcome fear? Read Part 2 of Matt's interview

  • A running race... with beer pit-stops. Enough said.

  • Ironman in a van. You'll understand when you read it.

Get to know: Matt

Matt: A reluctant runner, want-to-be fighter. Part 2: Overcoming fear

People don’t want to talk about their goals because it makes it real, and then they get scared, and if they don’t accomplish it they feel like a failure. It doesn’t have to be a big scary mountain, we’re not trying to get gold medals, it just has to be fun.

What we've been up to

Belgian Beer Mile

Belgium - the land of beer, frites and chocolate... and apparently one of those goes very well in combination with running.

The rules are simple - 4 laps (total of 1609m), down a beer at the start of each lap and finish in the fastest time possible. Oh yeah, and if you throw up, you need to run an extra lap.

A shoot, for fun, to keep us busy and ticking over. Although, not one for the faint hearted...

… a secret project

We've been busy putting something together for the end of the year. And as much as we want to show off some teasers, we also really want to keep it a surprise... but when it's ready, you'll be the first to know about it.

Shout out (a chance to highlight cool people doing cool things - living their woo)

This is someone we initially followed on Instagram due to his travel content, but his latest project has for sure made it worthy of a woowoo shoutout... Introducing Project Ironvan.

Willem plans to be the first idiot (his words, not ours) to train and complete an Ironman with zero experience, whilst traveling and living full time in his van.

He can't swim. He tore his Achilles so shouldn't really be running. He doesn't even own a bike, or running shoes (although he has got the goggles)! And he didn't realise how expensive being a triathlete is... but he is determined and his videos and training updates are entertaining.

It is for sure worth a follow on Instagram or Strava to see his journey.

Who knows? Maybe we'll be able to feature him in a story next year!

In fact, we seem to have a few budding triathletes on our radar lately, with a few races already booked in for next year. If you haven't already, be sure to join our 'Tri Training' whatsapp group for advice, to have a moan, or just to get some motivation!

Guest Column: Why I Tri

Oops - we've been cheeky. This month we don't have a column for you... we didn't want to raise Papa Woo's suspicions, but it's probably too late for that. All we'll say is there is a special edition coming next month.
